Vertical Development – The Learning Process in Taijiquan
By Jonas Althaus
Learning Taijiquan requires changes and restructuring on many levels. Drawing on his own experience as a student and teacher, Jonas Althaus describes how such a development can take place. Self-awareness is cultivated, the connection between mind and body is intensified, and a better sense of one’s own posture emerges. As practice progresses, the focus increasingly shifts to the quality and flow of the movements. Taiji principles such as grounding, relaxation, and connectedness are internalized. Weapon forms, partner training, and other practice systems provide additional impetus for one’s own development.

Oneness with the Dao
A Discussion with Jonas Althaus and Birte Timmsen
This issue continues our series of discussions on oneness with the Dao. Jonas Althaus describes how experiences of oneness can arise from an ever-deepening connection with oneself and the letting go of all that is superfluous. Birte Timmsen has chosen a very free, poetic style to put her experience of oneness into words. We have also received contributions to this discussion from Lukas Hähne and Klemens Speer.
